FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN SELF DEFENSE?

Typical self defense offerings generally involve causing harm to the "attacker". The purpose of our offerings is to prevent, avoid and escape harm. Because the majority of threats to our physical safety and emotional security are experiences with people we know, and sometimes even love, we empower you with tools that are appropriate to use on your children, your parents, your boss, authority figures - anyone, including strangers. So these offerings are for you to be safe even when it may not be justified to hurt another.

WHAT IF I'M REALLY LOOKING FOR SELF DEFENSE?

Our Better Than Self Defense offering is really what you want.  It's the physical defense and confidence everyone needs but rather than with the intent to harm the other person, our motives and purpose for everything are to escape. Most often, trying to hurt the person who is intending to harm us may or may not be appropriate or realistic.

If that doesn't sound like what you're looking for (or it does but you want more), KeySlinger Training is a class with physical defense with a tool that works whenever we are willing to use it - whether the person is bigger than us, under the influence, unable to feel pain, not in their right mind - and all the other common factors that make "typical methods" of self defense potentially ineffective. This tool does damage and is only appropriate only when the legal use of force is justified.

Is this kind of self defense enough? Or should I carry pepper spray/take karate/get a weapon, too?

There is no such thing as too many classes. We encourage you to take every form of self defense you are interested and willing. If you haven't already, be sure to sign up for emails (we don't send many because we don't enjoy receiving many) because we will send you a Self Defense Comparision Guide that includes the pros and cons of all that's typically considered "self defense". from the perspective and needs of a woman. Also included are must ask questions to ask before taking an offering to know what value that class will bring.

Are you worried about or already experiencing things getting physical?

Being PREPARED in prevention means knowing and proving to ourselves we are capable of keeping safe even if and when things go wrong. Most everything we teach is about prevention, avoidance and escaping, but there are times when we need physical skills in order to get away. Here's where we get those skills. Plus, when we are confident and sure of ourselves, we walk and carry ourselves differently and that brings it right back to being prevention.
